Is there a minimum amount of money I need to invest in my business to get an E-2 Visa?

To qualify for an E-2 Visa, the applicant must make a “substantial” investment. However, there isn’t a required minimum dollar amount that must be invested to get an E-2 visa. The applicant, however, should be prepared to invest at least $100,000 into their business to have a strong case.

How much is a “Substantial Amount”

A substantial amount is an amount that would be sufficient to ensure the investors’ business’ success, which is measured by a proportionality test. The proportionality test compares the amount of money invested in the business with the cost of establishing a new enterprise of the applicant’s designated nature, or to buy and existing one.

The amount of investment still depends on the size and value of the business the applicant is establishing. If the investor has invested enough money to cover the business’s needed funds, he has made a substantial enough investment.

Overall, although there isn’t a minimum investment an investor must make to qualify for an E-2 visa, the investment he or she makes must be enough to start the business up, and pay for it’s expenses as well as keep it afloat.
